Terms of service

Last updated: 30 July 2026.

Plain language, because terms nobody reads protect nobody.

1. What we are not

distill.care is not a medical service. We are not physicians, psychiatrists, psychologists, therapists, counsellors, or licensed clinicians of any kind, and we are not supervised by any.

Nothing on this site is:

  • a medical diagnosis
  • medical, psychiatric, or psychological advice
  • treatment, or a treatment recommendation
  • a substitute for consulting a qualified professional

A tool that describes patterns in your private writing invites a clinical reading whether or not it earns one. That is why this notice repeats in the footer of every page rather than sitting only here.

No clinician–patient relationship is created by using this service.

2. What the service is

A one-off analysis of a chat export you provide, producing a report describing patterns in that text. It is a screening aid and a curiosity, not an assessment. It has no clinical validation. See what this cannot do for a full accounting, which is part of these terms by reference.

3. You must be the person in the export

You may only submit a chat export of your own conversations, from an account you own.

You may not use this service to analyse anyone else's chat history — not a partner's, not a child's, not an employee's, not a friend's, not a family member's — with or without their permission, and not by having them "agree" to it.

We cannot technically prevent this, which is exactly why it is stated as an absolute. The harm of showing someone a machine-generated pattern report about a third party is real, it is foreseeable, and it is the single most likely way this tool hurts someone.

Accounts or orders we believe are analysing another person's data will be cancelled and refunded.

4. You must be 18 or older

This service is for adults. Do not use it if you are under 18.

5. Not for emergencies

Do not use this service if you are in crisis, at risk of harming yourself, or in need of urgent help. It is asynchronous, it takes time to run, and it is not monitored for emergencies. Nobody is watching your submission in real time.

If you need help now, see crisis resources.

6. Your data

Governed by your data, which forms part of these terms. In summary: your export is read in your browser, uploads only after payment, is redacted before any model sees it, and every artifact is purged within 24 hours.

By purchasing, you consent to your redacted chat content being sent to third-party model providers for analysis, as itemised on that page. If you do not consent to that, the service cannot run and you should not buy it.

7. Refunds

  • Before the run starts: full refund, no questions.
  • The run fails on our side: full refund, automatically.
  • The safety panel blocks your report: refunded in full, automatically. We do not keep money for a report we will not release.
  • Your export is too large or unreadable: we refuse the order before charging.
  • You read the report and disagree with it: this is not a defect, and it is a foreseeable outcome we describe in advance on the limits page. Contact us anyway — if the report is incoherent rather than merely unwelcome, we will refund it.

8. No warranty

The service is provided as is. We do not warrant that the report is accurate, complete, reproducible, or meaningful. We publish our measured reproducibility precisely so that this clause is not the first time you learn the output varies between runs.

9. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total liability arising from your use of this service is limited to the amount you paid us.

We are not liable for decisions you make on the basis of the report. It is a description of text, produced by software, with the known limitations we have documented.

10. Acceptable use

Do not use this service to:

  • analyse another person's data (see section 3)
  • attempt to obtain a diagnosis, or represent our output as one
  • screen, assess, or evaluate anyone for employment, insurance, custody, immigration, academic, or legal purposes
  • reverse-engineer the pipeline or extract its prompts

11. Changes

We may update these terms. Material changes will be dated at the top of this page. The terms that apply to your order are the ones in force when you paid.

12. Contact

Questions, refunds, or a report that reads wrong: [email protected]

For anything urgent about your safety, please use a crisis line instead. We are not a fast channel.
